The Interesting Economic Cost of Poor Sleep

Is $400 billion dollars a lot of money? Well, it depends who you ask really.

Or not.

Ever wondered how your lack of sleep effects the world around you?

Well probably not – but we wanted to see how sleep, which if done properly will take up one third of our lives, could affect a nation.

And the results were pretty shocking, when you look at the size of the numbers and estimates.

All of this has been compiled in the infographic below.

The Cost of Poor Sleeping Habits in 5 developed Economies

ECONOMIC LOSS of sleep deprivation
How I could use $366 billion dollars right now…

Fascinating stuff right?

The information above also leaves out other metrics for example; the total working days lost which provide an even better picture.

Sleep deprivation is linked to lower productivity at work, which results in a significant amount of working days being lost each year. On an annual basis, the U.S. loses an equivalent of around 1.2 million working days due to insufficient sleep. This is followed by Japan, which loses on average 600,000 working days per year. The UK and Germany both lose just over 200,000 working days. Canada loses around 80,000 working days.
